Dr. Fatima Al-Rashid โ€” PhD Conservation Biology, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST)

Dr. Fatima Al-Rashid is a conservation biologist and field ecologist specialising in biodiversity survey methods, environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques, and the conservation biology of arid and semi-arid ecosystems. She completed her PhD at the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia in 2013, where she developed novel eDNA-based methods for monitoring elusive desert vertebrates. Dr. Al-Rashid has led field expeditions in the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, and the Himalayas, documenting biodiversity in some of the world's most remote and challenging environments. She has collaborated with the IUCN Species Survival Commission, the Smithsonian Institution's Global Biodiversity Programme, and the UNDP's Biodiversity Finance Initiative. Her research has appeared in journals including Conservation Biology, Methods in Ecology and Evolution, and Biological Conservation. Field Notes was established in 2023 to document and communicate the science of biodiversity field research.

๐Ÿ“ Editorial Standards

Every article published on this site is based on peer-reviewed scientific literature, data from recognised research institutions (IPCC, NOAA, IUCN, NASA, WWF, WCS, and others), and the author's own research experience. We do not publish opinion, speculation, or content that has not been verified against primary scientific sources.

When scientific findings are contested or uncertain, we represent that uncertainty clearly and cite the range of current expert opinion. Corrections to published articles are made promptly and transparently.
